What is llms.txt, and what does this generator build?

llms.txt is a Markdown file at the root of your site that gives AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini a clean, structured map of your most important pages. It's to large language models what robots.txt is to search engine crawlers.

What is llms.txt?

A plain-text markdown file at /llms.txt that gives large language models a curated map of your site: who you are, what you do, and the pages worth reading. It is the AI-era equivalent of robots.txt plus a sitemap, proposed by Jeremy Howard in 2024.

What does an llms.txt example look like?

An H1 with your business name, a one-line blockquote summary, then H2 sections that list your key pages as markdown links with a short description each. Orkkid's own file at orkkid.com/llms.txt is a working llms.txt example, and the generator outputs the same structure from your sitemap.

Where do I upload the file?

At the root of your domain so it resolves at https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt. On WordPress, use a file manager or FTP into the public_html folder. On Next.js or Astro, drop it in /public.

Does llms.txt help Google rankings?

No. Google Search does not use it, and no major AI engine has confirmed using it to decide what to cite. Some AI agents and coding assistants do fetch it. It costs nothing and takes a minute, so it is a reasonable extra, but it will not move rankings or citations on its own.

Why did the generator only find some of my pages?

It reads your sitemap.xml (and sitemap index). If pages are missing from the sitemap, or the sitemap is blocked by robots.txt, they will not appear. Fix the sitemap first, then re-run.
