Generative engine optimization (GEO)

Be the business AI recommends.

When your customers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI who to hire, generative engine optimization makes your business the name they hear. We track it every month against your competitors and keep you ranking on Google while we do it, for solar companies, moving companies and wedding vendors.

The search landscape shifted

Your buyers now ask AI before they search.

Google answers with AI above the links now, and a growing share of buyers skip Google entirely and ask an assistant. Here's what that means for where you invest.

Ranks you on Google

Classic SEO Retainer

Keywords, links and page-one rankings. It still matters, and it covers one surface while AI Overviews and assistants answer around it.

  • Tracks Google rankings only
  • Leaves ChatGPT and Perplexity answers to chance
  • Loses clicks as AI Overviews push links down
  • Content written for rankings alone
Chases AI mentions

AI-Only Tactics

Focuses on AI answers alone and gives up the Google traffic, and the authority, that AI engines themselves rely on.

  • Gives up today's biggest channel
  • Builds on thin authority
  • Hard to measure without an SEO baseline
  • Gains that fade quickly
What we runWhat we do

GEO + SEO

One program covers both. The same technical, content, entity and authority work ranks you on Google and gets you recommended by every major AI engine.

  • Rankings and AI recommendations from the same work
  • Tracked with rank tracking and prompt panels
  • Business data consistent everywhere AI checks
  • Compounding returns as both surfaces grow
What we offer

What's included

Every part of your generative engine optimization program, run as one plan.

01

GEO Audit: Who AI Names Instead of You

Before anything else, we measure where you stand on both surfaces: your Google rankings for the terms that drive revenue, and how often ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI name you for the questions your buyers actually ask. The result is one honest baseline: what you own, what competitors own, and which gaps are winnable first.

02

Technical Foundations for Humans and Machines

Fast, crawlable, structured. We fix the classic technical layer (Core Web Vitals, indexation, internal linking, sitemaps) and the new one most agencies miss: AI crawler access for GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot, llms.txt, and server-rendered content that language models can actually read.

03

Content Built to Rank and Be Quoted

Google rewards depth; generative engines quote passages. We write and restructure content that does both: definitive answers up front for AI extraction, full coverage underneath for rankings, entities and data attributed so engines can verify what they quote. Grounded in your real expertise, never AI filler.

04

Entity & Schema Engineering

Language models decide who you are by cross-referencing every mention of your business. We make that easy: consistent Organization, Service, Person and FAQPage schema, matching data on your Google Business Profile and directories, and a clean entity graph connecting your brand to your services and the areas you serve.

05

Reviews, Mentions & Authority

Rankings need links; AI recommendations need corroboration. We build both with the same work: the right industry directories, review growth, digital PR, and mentions in the places AI engines retrieve from. Over time the models learn what Google already knows: that you belong in the answer.

06

Monthly Prompt-Panel Reporting

Every month, one report with both scoreboards: Google rankings, traffic and leads on one side, and on the other, a stable panel of real buyer prompts re-run across every major AI engine, showing which answers name you and which name a competitor.

How it works

What working with us looks like

  1. 01

    Two-Surface Audit

We audit your Google presence (rankings, technical health, authority) and your AI presence (who gets named across a prompt panel on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI). One document shows where you stand and what's winnable first.

  2. 02

    One Roadmap, Two Scoreboards

Every task is chosen for impact on both surfaces. You approve a prioritised roadmap with clear expectations for what moves in 30, 90 and 180 days.

  3. 03

    Ship in Sprints

Technical fixes, llms.txt, schema, content, reviews and mention building land in fortnightly sprints. Improvements go live every two weeks and start compounding right away.

  4. 04

    Measure, Defend, Expand

Monthly reporting covers rankings, traffic, leads and AI recommendations against named competitors. Winning prompts get defended, near-misses get targeted next.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is generative engine optimization (GEO)?

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the work of getting your business named, cited and recommended in answers written by AI: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode. It blends traditional SEO (technical health, content, links) with newer work like AI crawler access, passage-level citability, entity-consistent schema, brand mentions and prompt-panel tracking. Our full guide explains it in depth.

What is the difference between GEO and SEO?

SEO earns you a position in Google's list of links. GEO earns you a mention inside the answer an AI writes, whether that's ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's own AI Overview above the links. The foundations overlap heavily (AI engines lean on the same signals Google trusts), which is why we run them as one program rather than two.

Is GEO the same as AI SEO or AEO?

Practically, yes. GEO (generative engine optimization), AI SEO and AEO (answer engine optimization) are three names for the same discipline: getting recommended by AI search. GEO comes from the 2023 research paper that named the field, and it's the term most people now search for, so it's the one we use. The tactics are identical.

Do you offer SEO and GEO for specific industries?

Yes. Orkkid is an SEO and GEO agency for solar companies, and we also run SEO and GEO programs for moving companies and wedding vendors. The services are SEO for solar companies and GEO for solar companies, SEO for moving companies and GEO for moving companies, and SEO for wedding vendors and GEO for wedding vendors. The industry pages explain what each includes.

Why do you lead with solar companies?

Solar is a high-ticket purchase that homeowners research for months, and AI answers about solar installers are the most consistent of the three industries we studied. In our October 2026 study of 120 AI answers, the five AI engines agreed on solar picks more than on moving or wedding picks, and EnergySage was cited in 65% of answers about solar installers, so the path to getting named is clear. We have taken a solar installer to 1,531 organic clicks and 33 qualified inquiries, and we run the same programs for moving companies (a New York mover at 2.56 million search impressions) and wedding vendors (176 inquiries for an events business).

How do you measure GEO results?

Two scoreboards, one report. On the Google side: rankings for your money keywords, organic traffic and leads. On the AI side: we maintain a stable panel of prompts built from the questions your buyers ask, run it monthly across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI, and record which businesses each engine names. Trended over time and benchmarked against your competitors, that's the AI equivalent of rank tracking.

How long does GEO take to work?

AI engines that search the live web, like ChatGPT search and Perplexity, can pick up technical fixes and new pages within four to eight weeks. Google rankings and the brand associations held inside AI models move on a slower clock: typically three to six months of consistent content, schema and mention building, faster in uncrowded categories.

Do you work with businesses outside the US?

Yes. We work remotely with solar companies, moving companies and wedding vendors across English-speaking markets, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The method is the same; the directories, review sites and buyer questions are adapted to your market.
