Top 10 AEO Agencies in Australia (2026 Rankings)

Honest 2026 ranking of the ten Australian agencies worth talking to for AEO. Methodology, services, and what each one is actually good at.

AI search is rewriting how Australians find businesses. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews now sit between buyers and websites for a meaningful share of high-intent queries. The brands cited inside those AI answers win. The brands that aren't cited never even know the lead existed.

That makes Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) the most strategic marketing investment most Australian businesses can make in 2026. The catch: the category is brand-new, and almost every "AI SEO" or "AEO" service in market is some version of repackaged traditional SEO with a fresh coat of paint. A smaller number of agencies are doing real AEO work, with prompt panels, citation tracking, llms.txt, schema for AI extraction, and brand-mention building.

This is our honest ranking of ten Australian agencies worth talking to in 2026 if AI search visibility matters to you. We are biased about #1 (it is us). We have done our best to be fair about the other nine. Every profile below is sourced from each agency's public website at the time of writing.

For broader strategy context, see our GEO SEO complete guide, the AEO vs GEO vs AI SEO comparison, and the AEO vs traditional SEO ROI breakdown.

How we ranked these agencies

We weighed five things:

  • Stated AEO depth. Does the agency publicly describe a real AEO methodology with citation tracking, prompt panels, schema for AI, and llms.txt, or is it traditional SEO with new vocabulary?
  • Australian focus. AEO has unique local-market dynamics. Agencies with deep AU experience win for AU clients.
  • Track record. How long have they been operating, and what client outcomes do they have to point at?
  • Specialisation. Some agencies are right for tradies, some for SaaS, some for enterprise. We try to call out who each agency suits.
  • Transparency. Do they show real work, real reviews, and clear methodology, or is it black-box theatre?

A few well-known Australian agencies are not on this list because their public sites do not yet describe a credible AEO offering. We will update the rankings every quarter as the market matures.

1. Orkkid

Location: Melbourne, VIC | Founded: 2024 | Best for: Australian service businesses serious about AI search

We are putting Orkkid first because we built our entire studio around AEO from day one. Other agencies bolted AEO onto an existing SEO offering. We started with the AEO playbook and worked outward into traditional SEO and conversion-focused web design.

What that means in practice: every program starts with a 30-prompt citation share panel across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, and Claude. We build an llms.txt, deploy proper schema markup, rewrite content for passage-level citability, and run monthly tracking against your competitors. Every program is paired with web design and SEO so the same authority work compounds across all surfaces.

Strengths:

  • AEO-first methodology with real citation tracking, not vibe metrics
  • 60+ service+city pages already built for our own brand, so we know what scale looks like
  • Founded by Ned Mehic (BSc and MSc in Computer Science) with deep technical SEO grounding
  • Australia-focused: 20 capital and regional cities covered with native suburb-level depth
  • Direct, no-fluff communication and weekly progress updates

Best fit: Australian service businesses (plumbers, electricians, dentists, solar installers, contractors, weddings, healthcare, professional services) that want to win in both Google and AI engines as one coordinated program.

Get started: Free AI citation audit (we run 30 prompts and send a personalised report within 72 hours).

2. Uprise Digital

Location: Cremorne, Melbourne, VIC | Best for: Service-based businesses wanting a dedicated AEO methodology

Uprise Digital is one of the few Australian agencies with a public, dedicated AEO service line and a four-stage methodology behind it: AI visibility audit, entity and authority strategy, AI-optimised content, and monthly tracking with performance adjustments. Their offering is more specialist than the bolt-on "AI SEO" packages most agencies now ship.

The team explicitly targets industries where customers ask AI for recommendations: construction and home services, professional services, health and wellness, and trades. Their positioning calls out that AI search has "less competition for AI recommendations than traditional search rankings" right now, which is a useful and accurate framing.

Specific AEO services they offer:

  • Brand entity optimisation and structured data implementation
  • llms.txt setup and AI crawler access configuration
  • Question-based content restructuring for AI platforms
  • In-depth, citation-ready content creation
  • AI mention tracking across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity
  • Review signal and reputation management
  • Competitor AI visibility analysis

Best fit: Australian service-based businesses (especially trades, home services, health, and professional services) wanting a dedicated AEO partner with a clear methodology rather than an SEO retainer with AEO bolted on.

3. StudioHawk

Location: Melbourne (Prahran, VIC) and Sydney (South Eveleigh, NSW) | Founded: 2015 | Best for: Mid-to-large enterprises wanting award-winning SEO with AEO layered in

StudioHawk is one of Australia's most awarded SEO-only agencies, with offices in Melbourne and Sydney plus a London presence. Founder Harry built the agency around the goal of being "Australia's #1 specialist SEO agency," and the AI SEO and AEO services they now offer for ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini sit on top of a strong technical and content SEO foundation. That foundation is what gets cited by AI engines, so this combination tends to work.

Strengths:

  • 40+ industry awards and Google Partner Specialist status
  • Two Australian offices plus international reach
  • Notable client roster including Officeworks, Ryobi, Petstock, Kogan, NBN Co, and Semrush
  • 260+ Google reviews and board representation on the Australian Web Industry Association
  • Strong technical and content SEO craft that directly fuels AI citations

Best fit: Mid-to-large eCommerce, SaaS, and consumer brands that already prioritise SEO and want AEO added on top, particularly at the enterprise tier.

Strengths:

  • Multi-channel integration with paid media, lifecycle, and CRO
  • Senior strategy team accustomed to scaling DTC and lead-gen brands

  • Coverage across five major AI engines including Microsoft Copilot
  • Schema and entity-led methodology rooted in technical SEO

Local Digital is a long-running Australian SEO and paid media agency with two offices and a stated 500+ client portfolio. We expect them to formalise AEO services this year.

Strengths:

  • Strong local SEO foundations that feed AEO citations
  • Founder Michael Costin and a long client roster
  • Accessible $1,500/month minimum investment for SMBs

Best fit: Multi-location Australian service businesses and franchises wanting a managed local SEO partner whose work directly improves AI engine citations for "near me" and city-level queries, even before the agency formalises a dedicated AEO product.

How to choose the right AEO agency for your business

Read this section before you book any sales calls. Most agencies will pitch you with whatever language is currently working ("AI SEO", "GEO", "AEO", "LLM optimisation"). Cut through the noise with these questions:

1. "Show me your last citation share report." A real AEO agency runs prompt panels, tracks which sources AI engines cite for category queries, and reports the trend monthly. If they cannot show you a real one (anonymised), they do not actually do AEO yet.

2. "What's in your llms.txt?" Any agency claiming AEO competence should be able to show you the llms.txt on their own site, and explain what it does. If they do not have one or cannot explain it, they are reselling SEO with new branding.

3. "Which AI engines do you track?" Minimum should be ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. Bonus for Claude. Anyone tracking only ChatGPT is missing half the picture.

4. "How does your AEO program connect to my Google rankings?" Most AI engines pull from Google's index. A good agency will explain how SEO and AEO compound rather than treating them as separate tracks.

5. "Show me a real client example." Generic case studies are worth nothing. Ask for a specific business in your category and what changed in their citation share.

Frequently asked questions

Are AEO agencies different from traditional SEO agencies?

The best ones are. A real AEO agency runs prompt panels across multiple AI engines, tracks citation share, implements schema markup and llms.txt, and rewrites content for passage-level citability. Most "AEO" offerings in market are still recycled SEO. Ask the questions above before signing.

How much do Australian AEO agencies charge?

Specialist AEO retainers in 2026 typically range from $2,000 to $6,000 a month for service businesses, with enterprise programs running higher. Productised SMB packages start lower (around $1,500), enterprise programs can exceed $15,000. See our AEO vs traditional SEO ROI breakdown for value comparison.

Should I hire an Australian agency or use a US/UK provider?

Australian for Australian-market businesses, almost always. AEO has location-specific dynamics: AU suburb names, local pack signals, hipages and Oneflare presence, Google Business Profile setup, NAP consistency across AU directories. US and UK agencies regularly miss these and the cost of fixing it later is higher than picking AU from the start.

How long until I see results from AEO?

Citation pickup typically begins within 4 to 8 weeks for sites with existing Google authority. New domains take 3 to 6 months. Significant lifts in tracked enquiries are usually visible by month 3 to 6 of a serious program.

Can I do AEO myself without an agency?

Yes for the technical foundation: llms.txt, schema, and crawler accessibility are doable in-house with technical staff. The harder parts are the systematic monthly content, citation tracking, and authority work over 12 months. Most businesses find an agency saves time and produces better results.
