How it works

Google cuts titles and descriptions by pixel width, not character count, so "WWW" takes far more room than "iii". This tool measures your text in the same 20px and 14px Arial Google uses, against the 600px desktop and 920px mobile title limits and the 920px and 1300px description limits, and truncates at a word boundary where Google would. Everything runs in your browser.

SERP Snippet Preview: common questions

How long should a title tag be?

Google truncates titles at roughly 600 pixels on desktop, which is usually 50 to 60 characters. Wide letters like W and M take more room, which is why this tool measures pixels rather than characters.

How long should a meta description be?

Around 150 to 160 characters (about 920 pixels) on desktop and 120 on mobile before Google cuts it off. Put the outcome and the keyword in the first 100 characters so the cut version still makes sense.

Why does Google show a different title from my tag?

Google rewrites about 60% of titles when the tag is too long, keyword-stuffed, boilerplate, or doesn't match the H1. Keep the title under 60 characters, make it match the page heading, and lead with the specific topic.

Does the meta description affect rankings?

Not directly. It affects click-through rate, which does. Write it as the answer to the searcher's question with one concrete detail (price, timeframe, location) and a reason to click.
